PBL 2017 Day 9 and Day 10 Results

Chennai Smashers are the third team to qualify for the Semi-Finals after beating Mumbai Rockets 4-3 on Day 10 of PBL 2017.

 

Day 9: Jan 9, 2017

Each Tie consists of 5 Matches

Highlights:

  • The first singles match saw a good contest between Sourabh Verma of Blasters and Wong Ki of Warriors. At 8-8 in the first game, the Indian showed great reliance and egged by the home ground scored 2 points to pull ahead and eventually win the contest 13-11, 11-7
  • The trump match between Saina and Cheung Yi started well for the home crowd with Cheung getting the initial game for 11-9. Saina came back in the 2nd and 3rd game to win the match easily with the final score in favour of Saina 9-11, 11-5, 11-5
  • The Men’s Doubles proved to be an exciting encounter with the Warriors winning the first game at 11-6 and it looked like a Blasters defeat. But the second set proved to be a different Blaster’s side winning 6 points on the trot and win the second set by 11-9. The momentum shown by Ko Sung and Yeon Deong continued to the third set with the home team coming up on top with the final result in favour of the Blasters 6-11, 11-9, 11-6.

Highlights:

  • With the Men’s Singles win by Tommy Sugiarto Chennai is the 3rd team to qualify for the Semi-Finals.
  • The first match was a Men’s Singles affair between Prannoy and Kashyap. Even though Kashyap used his guile to a good extent he couldn’t stop committing the errors and handed HS Prannoy his fifth win in a row.
  • The second match saw debutant Chirag Shetty for Mumbai Rockets in this edition of PBL 2017.
  • The first game was won by debutant Chirag and Zieba as the Adcocks were a little slow around the court. But the second game saw a much more energized Adcocks as they rushed to a 4-0 lead took the second and third game easily.
  • Men’s singles saw Ajay Jayaraman winning the first game against the experienced Tommy Sugiarto by 11-9. But the 2nd and 3rd games belonged to the Indonesian as he used his experience and guile to leave Jayaraman clueless. Final score in favour of Sugiarto 8-11, 11-2, 11-5
  • With the current form of Sung Ji Hyun, the singles match between here and PV Sindhu was a much awaited battle The first set saw both the players reaching out to all corners of the court and the score was even 8-8. The point of the match was definitely a so-shot rally which culminated in PV Sindhu scoring of a high smash. The match was eventually won by the Indian 11-8, 12-10.
