Jamshedpur FC ended their Indian Super League campaign on an impressive note as they schooled an inexperienced Bengaluru FC team 5-1 at the JRD Tata Sports Complex.
Bengaluru FC took the lead through Semboi Haokip (16’), only for Augustin Fernandes (45’) to level terms at the break. But Jamshedpur turned on the style in an incredible second-half display to seal a dominant win, with goals from Michael Soosairaj (54’), Pablo Morgado (56’,57’) and Carlos Calvo (61’).
The host gained from a series of successful attacks in the second half where it scored four in a span of seven minutes to complete its biggest win of the season. Bengaluru FC went ahead in the first quarter of action through a goal from Thongkosiem Haokip and then saw a Xisco Hernandez Marcos penalty saved. Jamshedpur made the turnaround during injury time in first half when Augustine Fernandes found the equaliser. Michael Soosairaj gave Jamshedpur the lead in the 54th minute before Pablo Morgado scored twice in two minutes and Carlos Calvo completed the scoring process in the 61st minute.
Bengaluru was reduced to 10 men in the 68th minute when its defender Gursimrat Singh Gill was sent off after collecting his second booking. Bengaluru, which left its core team back home in preparation for the playoffs, fielded four ‘B’ team players as coach Carles Cuadrat made eight changes in the side.
Jamshedpur finishes fifth with 27 points to end another season of disappointment. It has, however, ensures qualification to the main draw of the Super Cup, which comes up later next month.
